EXPERT – WAVE / FREESTYLE BOARDS

< 100 L, BFT 4 AND ABOVE

Level 5: Advanced manoeuvres, wave sailing, jumping and Freestyle.

The expert level incorporates a slightly more radical approach to windsurfing, this now brings in the techniques needed to sail in waves, and the newer moves of the Freestyle phenomenon. For sailors to participate at this level they must be a very confident and proficient level 4.

For learning to sail in waves two things would be taught, jumping and riding, this is best done on a one to one basis, for safety, help, and technique. At this stage sailors will spend quite a while easing there way into it, as confidence is built over time. Once this has been built, another private lesson may be in order to perfect the wave riding, or learn a trick, such as a tabletop or forward loop.

Obviously not all destinations have waves or are suitable for this. However if you are an expert, flat water is still brilliant fun, with the introduction of freestyle! This involves planing manoeuvres on flat water or chop such as the Vulcan, Air Gibe, Spocks, Flakas … the list is endless. If these seem a little too out there, there are always other moves you can perfect that look just as great and give just as much satisfaction when completed, such as the Duck Gibe, downwind 360, upwind 360… again the technique for these are all easily obtained through a clinic or private lesson, and perfected through trial and error.
