THE WINDSURFING - CLUB MISTRAL

Club Mistral is located on the beach at Hotel Pequeno Refugio. A full range of year 2004 Mistral boards and North rigs are available. This centre is also running the highly recommended Club Mistral Unlimited Instruction package from December to October. For only £95 in addition to board hire you can have up to 4 1.5 hours of expert instruction a day for 5 days. Improvement guaranteed! In addition Club Mistral are running kitesurfing lessons from December to October.

The Club Mistral centre is situated upwind on the bay close to the shore and offers plenty of space for easy launches and exits without a shorebreak. The days in Cabarete begin very pleasurably with a light breeze, which gains in strength, to a force of 4-6, after midday, and blows cross-offshore from the right in summer (May to November). In the bay, the surface of the water is flat to choppy. The waves at the outer reef are up to 4 m high, and both wave novices and ambitious surfing experts can let off a lot of steam there. The centre includes a shop and a cosy chill-out area under shady palms, with a gorgeous view of the ocean. There is a wide variety of affordable bars and restaurants to choose from.

As well as running all levels of courses Mistral also offer an excellent Unlimited Instruction Programme consisting of three sessions per day of different aspects from waterstarting to gybes. The beginners' unit is held at 9 a.m., when the wind is not so strong. The units for windsurfers with low-to-intermediate skills takes place at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m.; at 3 p.m. the unit for advanced windsurfers takes place, as the wind is really strong by then (wind force: 7 - 8). Due to the ideal conditions the average learning curve is astonishingly steep.
