Join one of the organised trips to Playa Parguito on the north side of the island. The drive takes half an hour and it is best to go early in the morning and midweek before the beach gets busy.

Don't miss a day trip to Coche Island which is only half an hour away from El Yaque by boat. There you will find a lovely beach with white sand, excellent windsurf and kitesurf conditions.The windsurf centre offers day trips to Coche. It is really worth going there for a day trip or even spend a couple of days there. Coche has one really nice all-inclusive hotel which belongs to the Paradise hotels.

There are a couple of dive sites worth investigating for qualified divers. One spot is Los Frailes, these are little islands on the west coast of Margarita. There is another good spot close to Cubagua, which you reach from Punta de Piedras by boat. In general Margarita is not recommended for real diving enthusiasts.

This area is on the other half of the "figure of eight" shape of Margarita and large areas are national park. You can take a boat trip around the mangrove swamps and backwaters where you will almost certainly see seahorses.

Porlamar the biggest city of the island is offers a few possibilities for shopping. A new shopping centre Sambil just opened last year and there is also the local market where you can find souvenirs and cheap clothes. The local market is open every day in the morning. The best day to go there is Sunday.

This is a half day trip a short 20 minute drive from El Yaque.From there you start trekking and you will see a lot of the Flora and Fauna of Margarita. And have a refreshing swim in a lovely waterfall!

There are really interesting trips to Angel Falls, Canaima National Park and the Orinoco Delta. Ideally you should stay one or two nights but it is possible in a day.

Los Roques is an Archipelago of island 1 and a half hours flight away. The white sandy beaches and crystal clear turquoise warm water are stunningly beautiful; this really is an exceptional place.

Los Roques is ideally visited over 2 to 4 days with the cost starting from around £250 but worth every penny. Although there are some windsurfing and Kitesurfing facilities this area is really just a romantic getaway.
