A holiday in Tarifa can offer more than just Windsurfing. Once you've had enough of the water, or for those rare light wind days, the mountains behind can be explored on horseback or by bike. Also there is a good dive centre, climbing, surfing and hang gliding. If you want to visit another continent then try a day trip to Morocco. There is a very good Spanish school and courses can be arranged to fit in around windsurfing.

WHALE WATCHING TARIFA

A definite must is a whale-watching trip in the Straits of Gibraltar. There are several tour boats that depart from Tarifa, and sightings of dolphins and pilot whales are guaranteed or you are offered a repeat trip! Other marine visitors to these rich feeding grounds are Sperm whales, Fin whales and Orcas. Don't forget your camera!

DAY TRIP TRIP TANGIER FROM TARIFA

In a clear day you can see the tip of Morocco on the North Coast of Africa from tarifa. A must do trip is a day tour of the Moroccan Port town of Tangier using the 35 minute ferry service

When you're staying in Tarifa you are so close to Africa that a day trip to Morocco is a must do activity. We recommend to take a (private) guide. The ferry company organizes tours to Tangier - a city which some like, some dislike but all find it "interesting" to have seen.
A day tour would cost around Euro 70 and include:

  • a visit of the new city and the medina (old town) passing by the fashionable residential districts of "Marché aux Boeufs" and "California"

  • a drive to the famous lighthouse of CAPE SPARTEL (The Lighthouse on the Northern most point of Africa) with a magnificent view of the Straits of Gibraltar from the farthest westerly point of the African continent.

  • the CAVES of HERCULES where for centuries the tribe that owns the caves has been scooping out millstones to grind wheat and olives

  • lunch in an authentic Moroccan restaurant where you will be served superb Moroccan cuisine and partake in the customary mint tea and pastries, all while being entertained by musicians.

  • visit the Kasbah with its Sultan's Palace, the Old Treasury and the Museum, souks of the Medina, visit the MENDOUBIA GARDENS, the GRAND SOCCO, the PETIT SOCCO, the Jewish Quarter, and the Berber handicraft and spice markets…
